Off Road Toad / 1988

In 1984, Rod Kirkham, the owner of Toad Cycles and Mountain and Beach Bicycles, in Vancouver, crafted a 26" BMX cruiser using aluminum tubing he purchased from Boeing Aircraft in Seattle. Kirkham named his cruiser the Road Toad. In late 1988, the Off-Road Toad debuted. The Off-Road Toad was a line of mountain bikes designed and produced by Kirkham, and manufactured at Rocky Mountain Bicycles in Richmond, B.C. Derek Bailey, who was a well-known and respected frame builder, fillet brazed roughly 30 Off-Road Toads. Subsequent batches of Toads, about 50, were TIG welded by Chris Dekerf. This Off-Road Toad was one of the Derek Bailey builds and features the original paint from production.
